The Argentine Juan Martin del Potro has confirmed that he will make a comeback to play in the Australian Open next week, after being sidelined for a long spell by a wrist problem.
The former US Open champion, who is now ranked 135 – has been ruled out of action since February last year because of a left wrist problem that required surgery, but he has decided to play at the Sydney ATP tournament to try to defend his title.
Del Potro, 26, confirmed the news on his Facebook page:
The Australian Open will be played from January 19 to February 1 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
