Real Madrid have reportedly made an approach to sign Manchester City forward Erling Braut Haaland during this summer’s transfer window.
During his time at Borussia Dortmund, there was a lot of speculation linking Los Blancos with the Norwegian international. However, Man City emerged as the ultimate winners in the race to sign the 22-year-old, securing his services on a five-year contract.
Haaland has carried on his impressive scoring streak from recent seasons into the 2022-23 campaign, scoring an incredible 33 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens.
The forward has scored 27 goals in the Premier League alone, in addition to scoring five times in the five Champions League matches he has played so far this season.
Arsenal currently sit ahead of City in the Premier League table, with the Citizens trailing by five points, despite having played the same number of matches.
Although Haaland’s scoring form has been remarkable, there are suggestions that Man City may not be as cohesive with him in the team, given their previous success without a traditional centre-forward.
Real Madrid reportedly see a chance to sign Haaland in the upcoming summer transfer window and are contemplating an ambitious move for the Norwegian. The Independent reports that the Spanish and European champions view Haaland as an ideal long-term replacement for Karim Benzema, who is yet to sign a new contract with the Bernabeu club.
Benzema’s current contract is due to expire at the end of June. Although the Frenchman is expected to sign a new deal, he will turn 36 later this year, and injuries have plagued him this season.
Initially, Real Madrid had planned to pursue Haaland in 2024, but they may attempt to make an audacious move for him in the upcoming transfer window.
Haaland had scored an impressive 86 goals and provided 23 assists in 89 appearances for Dortmund before joining Man City last summer.
