Newcastle United are reportedly leading the race to sign Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney as they prepare for their return to the UEFA Champions League under manager Eddie Howe.
With Antonee Robinson opting for a new deal with Fulham, the Magpies have shifted their focus to securing a specialist left-back, and Tierney is their top priority.
Having made only one senior signing this summer, Newcastle United are keen to add more quality players to their squad before the transfer window closes. They are also targeting Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes as an exciting addition, while looking for a more attacking and mobile left-back to replace Dan Burn.
Although Newcastle had previously considered Fulham’s Robinson, his contract extension has made Tierney their sole focus. The club are reportedly in pole position to sign the Scottish left-back, who was also pursued by Manchester City. Arsenal are demanding around £25 million for Tierney’s services.
Tierney, 26, still has his best years ahead of him and could thrive under Howe’s coaching. While there are concerns about Matt Targett’s future, Newcastle’s pursuit of Tierney signals their ambition to strengthen the team. However, the club must navigate financial constraints as they work within a limited budget this summer.
