Manchester United are reportedly keeping an eye on Atalanta BC centre-back Giorgio Scalvini with a view to making a move in the summer.
During the 2022-23 season, the 19-year-old has shown impressive performance, having scored twice and provided one assist in 20 games across all competitions.
He was signed by Atalanta from Brescia in 2015 and worked his way up through the club’s different age divisions. He made his debut for the first team in October 2021 at the age of 17.
Scalvini has already played for Italy on three occasions and has a contract with his current team until June 2027, providing Atalanta with a strong bargaining position to retain him.
This summer could bring about some challenging discussions for Atalanta, as several clubs are rumoured to be interested in their player at the end of the current season.
Corriere della Sera via 90min reports that Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Liverpool have been keeping an eye on the Italy international throughout this season, while Manchester United have also shown a strong desire to acquire his services.
At present, the Red Devils have a surplus of options in their central defence, resulting in limited playing time for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
The 20-time English champions are expected to be active during the upcoming transfer window, with a high-profile centre-forward and central midfielder potentially arriving at Old Trafford.
The club’s ability to make such moves will depend on their qualification for the Champions League next season and the ownership situation.
