Manchester United are eyeing a summer swoop for Real Sociedad’s 25-year-old midfield dynamo, Martin Zubimendi. The Daily Telegraph reports that United are keen to bolster their midfield, with Zubimendi emerging as a prime target.
Zubimendi’s rise at Real Sociedad has been impressive since breaking into the first team in 2018. Now a key figure for La Real and a recent UEFA Euro 2024 champion with Spain, his stock has never been higher. In the Euro 2024 final, he replaced Rodri at half-time, helping Spain secure victory with his composure and control in midfield.
Manchester United’s interest makes sense given the uncertainties around the futures of Casemiro, Scott McTominay, and Christian Eriksen. While the Red Devils are close to securing Manuel Ugarte from PSG, adding Zubimendi could further strengthen their midfield, especially if multiple departures occur.
Convincing Zubimendi to leave Real Sociedad will be challenging, but United’s pursuit signals their ambition to revamp their squad. With other targets like Adrien Rabiot also in the mix, the coming weeks will reveal if Zubimendi becomes a top priority for Erik ten Hag’s side.
