The 25-year-old midfielder played an crucial role in Southampton’s last term successful campaign, scored four league goals and helping the Saints to reach seventh position.
The Red Devils finished fourth last season to secure a return to the UEFA Champions League, but they are desperate to push for major honours in the coming campaign, as they have already secured Memphis Depay, and Schneiderlin would be a good addition too.
Here’s how United fans reacted to this news:
Not trying to get too ahead of this transfer season but Herrera Carrick Schneiderlin in midfield will be an absolute joy to watch

Well excited by the Schneiderlin talk. Surprised some United/Arsenal aren’t convinced by him. You clearly have far higher standards than me

Lots of good arguments for signing Schneiderlin but I’d still prefer Schweini. Brings presence, leadership & a bit of arrogance to the side.

Schweinsteiger & Schneiderlin getting close to signing apparently. The excitement is unbearable. Bloody love to get both #MUFC

Schneiderlin would be a cracking signing wouldn’t he? Ticks all the boxes of the No.6 role Van Gaal wants to fill.

“Schneiderlin & Schweinsteiger” sounds more like a buddy cop sitcom than it does Man United’s potential midfield pairing for next season.
