Liverpool are interested in signing Leicester City attacker James Maddison during the upcoming transfer window.
The England international has played a key role for the Foxes in the 2022-23 season, appearing in 24 matches across all competitions and contributing nine goals and six assists.
Although Maddison’s contract with Leicester expires next June, there is a lot of speculation about his future. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 26-year-old midfielder, who is rumoured to be available for around £50m in the summer transfer window.
According to 90min, the Reds have contacted Maddison’s representatives and expressed an interest in signing him for the 2023-24 season. The report also claims that Maddison will leave King Power Stadium, even if the club avoids relegation this season.
Leicester have had a disappointing season, earning only 25 points from 29 matches and currently occupying 19th place in the Premier League table.
The Foxes’ next game will be against Bournemouth on Saturday, with Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler leading the team following Brendan Rodgers’s departure as coach.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Maddison may be affected by their lack of Champions League football for the 2023-24 season. If Liverpool fails to make the top four, Newcastle United could become a more attractive option for the Englishman.
Liverpool are currently in eighth place, 10 points behind Manchester United in fourth place, with both teams having played 28 matches.
Maddison joined Leicester from Norwich City in July 2018 and has played 195 games for the Foxes, contributing 54 goals and 38 assists.
Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea have been previously linked with Maddison, but it seems that they have other priorities in the upcoming transfer market.
