Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly “explored” the possibility of signing FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera when the transfer window opens in January.
Spurs have not recruited any new players to the club during the summer, which led to discontent among the supporters.
However, according to Calciomercato, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to strengthen his midfield options at the start of 2019, and has targeted a move for the 28-year-old Herrera who has made almost 200 appearances for the Portuguese giants since a move from Pachuca in 2013.
The Mexico international has impressed with the national squad at the World Cup this summer, and he has earned praise for his performances in midfield, providing box-to-box quality in the middle of the park.
The Lilywhites’ Fans will be hoping for major investment in the mid-season in order to revamp Pochettino’s options, and a midfielder should be a priority given uncertainty over Mousa Dembele’s future.
Herrera could be an ideal replacement for Dembele, with the Belgium ace widely expected to leave the north London outfit in the new year.
