Arsenal have stepped up their interest in the race for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano during the January transfer window.
The Frenchman has established himself as one of the top European prospects at the German outfit, having made 79 appearances since moving to Bundesliga in January 2017.
The Gunners had been keen to sign the 20-year-old defender during the summer, however, Die Roten Bullen were not prepared to part ways with the youngster for anything below his release clause, alleged to be £86.44m.
German magazine Kicker via Daily Mail reports that £17.29m is deducted with each passing window, providing any potential suitors with more of a chance of pushing through a deal for the centre-back.
The report goes on to claim that the north London outfit are ready to make a fresh bid worth £51.85m during the mid-season transfer window in the new year.
Leipzig signed Upamecano for £9m from Red Bull Salzburg in 2017 and his current contract expires in 2021.
