Durham coach Jon Lewis is pondering a short-term contract for Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara, according to reports from BBC Sport.
The report claims, Lewis believes that the 36-year-old Sangakkara would be a “tremendous” addition for Durham this season.
Lewis said: “I’m glad to see that come out but I can’t confirm.”
The most consistent batsman Sangakkara has won variety of awards: Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and People’s Choice awards in 2012.
Sangakkara, who also had a career with Warwickshire in 2007.
It is understood, Durham are keen to sign him as an overseas player for the 2014 season.
