Somerset have announced the signing of all-rounder Jim Allenby from Glamorgan for the next season.

Following a five-year stint with Glamorgan – Allenby, 32, has joined the Taunton club on a permanent deal, with Craig Meschede moving the opposite way on a season-long loan as part of the deal.

“I am delighted to be joining Somerset, which is a club I hold in extremely high regard. My aspirations are to win trophies and I am really looking forward to helping Somerset strive to achieve that objective,” he told the club’s official website.
The Australian-born – Allenby has a fantastic record in Division Two of the County Championship. He scored more than 900 first-class runs last season and took 52 Championship wickets.

Meanwhile, Glamorgan have announced the contract extension of South Africa’s Jacques Rudolph, that will keep him at the county until the end of the 2017 season.
